Speaking on AI and Misinformation at Fact Forward Mozilla x Jambo Spaces Event
I had the opportunity to speak at the Fact Forward: Misinformation and Ethical Blogging summit 🎤 hosted by @mozilla Foundation and @jambospaces . During my session, on the topic “The impact of AI on the Dissemination of Misinformation,” I discussed how AI can both aid and hinder the spread of misinformation.
On the one hand, AI can be used to generate and spread false or misleading information at a massive scale. For example, deepfakes can be used to create realistic but fake videos or audio clips, while AI-powered chatbots can generate vast amounts of text that can be difficult to distinguish from human-written content.
On the other hand, AI can also be used to help mitigate the spread of misinformation. For example, AI-powered tools can be used to detect and flag fake news, it can be used for content moderation on social media platforms as well AI-powered chatbots being used to provide accurate and reliable information.
Overall, the impact of AI on the dissemination of misinformation is a complex issue with no easy answers. However, it is clear that AI has the potential to both aid in the wide spread and mitigate the spread of false information.
